Poochin
Poochin
The Poochin is a hybrid dog that is playful, quiet, and makes a great companion dog. They love being cuddled and enjoy long hours of lap time. They are family-oriented dogs that develop a strong bond with the owner.
Origin
The Poochin is a result of crossbreeding between a Poodle and a Japanese Chin. The Japanese Chin is a Chinese dog, and Poodle is a popular breed since Roman and Egyptian civilization first bred in Germany. The history of Poochin’s parent breed is quite clear. As it is a hybrid dog, it cannot be registered under AKC (American Kennel Club), but it is registered as a mixed breed dog under the hybrid canine club.
Size
The Poochin is a small toy-sized breed with a shoulder height of 7-15 inches, and their weight ranges from 3-13 pounds. It has a sturdy body with a round head, broad muzzle, dark eyes, and small to the medium-sized nose. They have featherings on the ears that fold down up to the jaw. They have hair on their thighs, and the tail gives a quite showy look.
Coat
The Poochin has wavy or curly hair that is medium in length. They come in various colours like grey, white, black, golden, silver, cream, tan, and brown. They possess Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat and are suitable for allergy sufferers. They shed a little if they are kept in a hotter climate.
Temperament
The Poochin is an intelligent, obedient, and loyal breed that makes a great companion. They enjoy spending time with people of all ages and get along well with children and other pets of the family. They enjoy being on your lap and love cuddling. They do not bark often but tend to become destructive and develop separation anxiety if left alone for a longer time. They crave human attention and time and love to be around their family all the time. Early socialization is essential to turn your pup into a well-mannered dog and change its weird behaviour towards strangers. A Poochin can be easily trained as it is eager to please its owner.
Care
A Poochin has low energy requirements, and it does not require a lot of exercises to maintain physical and mental balance. It loves to spend time on your lap rather than going outdoor. They are suitable for apartment living, and most of their energy requirements are fulfilled by following their owner in the house. 25-30 minutes of physical activity or playtime per day is enough to keep your pup healthy. Regular brushing is required as it becomes little difficult to prevent the coat from matting. Take care of your dog’s hygiene by cleaning its eyes and ears, brushing teeth to remove tartar buildup, and bathe when necessary.
Health
As the Poochin is a hybrid dog, it may be susceptible to health problems that affect its parent breed. A Poochin has an average lifespan of 10-13 years. It is not necessary that your pet will inherit a health problem from its parent breed. Hip Dysplasia, Epilepsy, Patellar Luxation, Hypothyroidism, Heart problems, skin infections, Addison’s disease, and Legg-Calves-Perthes Disease are commonly found problems in a Poochin. Regular vet check-ups are necessary to keep a check on your dog’s overall health. Make sure to get the health clearance before you bring this furr ball home.
