Chillier
Chillier
Affectionate and friendly, Chillier is a cross between a Chihuahua and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It is a family dog that gets along well with children; however, it can be a handful for novice owners regarding training.
Origin
The Chillier results from the crossbreeding between two purebreds, Chihuahua and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. There is not a lot of detailed information available on the history of the breed. Breeders wanted to combine some of the best personality traits of its parent breed to create a friendly companion family dog. One reason to create the mixed breed was also to minimize the health issues in the breed. As it is a mixed breed, it is recognized by ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club) and DDKC (Designer Dogs Kennel Club).
Size
As the Chiller is a mixed breed, it may vary in size depending upon the dominant trait of the parent breed. It is small, with a shoulder height of 8-12 inches and an average weight of 6-12 pounds. Male Chillier are noticeably larger than their female counterparts and can be smaller or larger than their standard size.
Coat
The Chillier has a coat similar to its parent breeds, and their coat can be both short and straight or long and wavy. They are seen in various colors: black, white, brown, fawn, and gray.
Temperament
The Chillier is a friendly and family-focused dog. It has a good reputation of being a family dog that enjoys being around people and quickly develops a strong bond with family members. They love being part of the family and are happy to lounge on the couch for hours. It is an intelligent and outgoing dog, so that you won’t face any problems with him in social situations. It loves to be the center of activity about everything going around him. Some Chilliers can be timid, while others can be protective about their family. They may inherit stubbornness and willfulness from one of their parent breeds, so socialization and training are necessary at a young age and in adulthood. They get along well with other pets and may tend to chase smaller animals. Socialize your pup, as it will help to interact with other animals.
Care
Chillier is an active little dog that needs daily walks and play sessions to stay fit and mentally stimulated. You can take your pup to a dog park to reinforce his need for socialization. It is suitable for apartment living; however, it needs indoor activities to keep him from getting bored or destructive. It is a low to moderate maintenance breed and may shed moderate hair. Brushing your pup once or twice a week is required to keep the coat in good shape. Trimming nails, cleaning eyes and ears, and brushing teeth should be a part of their grooming routine.
Health
The Chiller has an average lifespan of 12-16 years. It is prone to certain health conditions its parent breeds also face, such as Hip Dysplasia, Glaucoma, and Patellar Luxation. Do ask for the medical clearance when you bring a Chiller home.
