Bocker

Bocker
Small, affectionate, and adorable, a Bocker is a mixed breed dog, a cross between Beagle and a Cocker Spaniel. They are small and cuddly dogs that are the perfect companion for a small family with kids, and it is a mix of some of the best qualities of both breeds.
Origin
The Bocker results from crossbreeding between a Beagle and a Cocker Spaniel. It was bred during the 1990s in North America when there was a trend to create designer breeds. Breeders wanted to create a mix of two parents breeds to create a new designer dog with minimum health issues that many pure breeds have. It inherits some of its best qualities from the parent breeds. As it is a mixed breed, it is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club.
Size
As the Bocker is a mixed breed, it may vary in size depending upon the dominant trait of the parent breed. It has a shoulder height of 12-15 inches, and it weighs around 20-30 pounds. It may be smaller or larger than its average size. Male Bockers are generally more prominent than females.
Coat
The Bockers coat is a mix of their parent’s breed, and it may have a short and coarse coat like a Beagle or a curly coat like a Cocker Spaniel. They can be seen in various colors like black, brown, merle, white, bi-color, and tri-color. It is generally a combination of two colors rather than a solid color.
Temperament
Bockers are generally sweet, playful, cuddly dogs. They may have different personality traits depending upon the dominance of the parent breed. They are super energetic and enjoy a lot of various activities. They love to spend time with the family and participate in the tasks. They make good watchdogs as they are highly alert and will signal you if they sense anything weird at your door or nearby. They are easy-going and enjoy playing games but may get sidetracked by new smells and go off on a new adventure. They develop a strong bond with the owner and love to be around the family all the time. They may get aggressive or suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long. Early socialization and exposure to different places are essential for your pup to become a well-behaved dog.
Care
Bockers have high energy levels, so they require a lot of exercise during the day. Take your dog for two rounds of walk with some play sessions to keep them physically fit and mentally stimulated. They require daily brushing or every alternative day to keep their coat clean and healthy. Clean their ears regularly as they are prone to ear infections. Trim their nails and brush their teeth to prevent dental problems and bad breath. Take your dog for regular vet visits to detect the early signs of diseases, if any.
Health
The Bockers have a lifespan of 10-12 years. It is a mixed breed, so it is prone to health issues that their parent breeds also face. Hypothyroidism, heart diseases, epilepsy, glaucoma, cherry eye, progressive retinal atrophy, eye problems, and ear infections are diseases seen in a Bocker.
