Basset Fauve De Bretagne
Origin: Basset Fauve De Bretagne originated during 1500 in France. Breton loved to hunt some specific hounds every day. The breed was popular at that time as the Grand Fauve de Bretagne. However, those hounds became extinct in later times. Around 1789, the peasant preferred to have a short-legged companion for hunting instead of the horses. Thus, came the name Basset Here, Bas means low, and Set implies set in France.
Size: This breed comes as a small or medium-sized cute creature. The size of the shoulder generally varies between 12 and 15 inches. Moreover, it is not much in weight also. The fluffy companion weighs around twenty-five to thirty-five pounds.
Coat: The Basset Fauve De Bretagne has a wire-coat. It is thick, and you will feel a little harsh while touching them. The dense coat varies in multiple colors. Some of the widely-seen varieties include brick red, fawn, and even golden. The chest area has a tiny white spot. Sometimes, in the show ring, people appreciate the contrasting black hairs. They can appear either on the back or near the ears. However, they are not desirable in usual circumstances.
Temperament: Usually, these are famous for being a jovial breed. Well-bred puppies come with an even temperament. So, the owners can find the antics to be highly exciting and tolerable. It is great to go hunting with this breed. If managed properly, they will behave very gently. Furthermore, these dogs are friendly to the kids also. They are often in a relaxed mood and will make you enjoy every moment in their company.
Care: Maintenance of Basset Fauve De Bretagne is not a complicated job. Only one comb in a week on the harsh coat is enough for perfectly smooth skin. Furthermore, these dogs also need plucking of the hair at least twice a year. However, there is no question of trimming the coat hair. But the owners can remove the excess hair growing around the ears. It is better not to leave alone these doggies. They can be highly mischievous, just like a naughty kid if left alone.
