Pomapoo

Pomapoo
Compact, affectionate, and intelligent, this little dog breed crosses between Pomeranian and a Poodle. It has got the best traits of its parent breeds. This adorable breed of dog is suitable for apartment living and also does well in large houses.
Origin
The Pomapoo, also known as Pompeo or Pomeranian, is the result of crossbreeding between the two famous breeds – Pomeranian and a Toy Poodle. They were bred in North America in the late 1900s to create a dog with mixed traits and Poodle’s non-shedding coat. The aim was to develop an affectionate companion dog. As it is not purebred, it cannot get recognition by the American Kennel Club, but it can be registered with a hybrid canine club.
Size
A Pomapoo comes in different standard sizes due to the Toy Poodle, Miniature Poodle, and Standard Poodle. The most common size of a Pomapoo is miniature. It has a shoulder height of 8-12 inches and weighs around 3-15 pounds. A Pomapoo may have a wedge-shaped head like a Pomeranian or a long, narrow muzzle like a Poodle. They are medium-sized dogs with a short neck, straight back, and V-shaped ears. Tails may be carried high over the back or straight.
Coat
The Pomapoo’s coat is a mix of its parent breed. They have short to medium-length coats that may be curly, wavy, or straight. They shed little to none and may have a hypoallergenic coat that is good for allergy sufferers. They come in different colors, including white, brown, black, red, fawn, and sable. They are not suitable to tolerate extreme weather conditions.
Temperament
The Pomapoo is an adorable, friendly, and loving breed. They are devoted to their family and make a strong bond with them. They get along well with children and make an excellent companion. Young kids should be supervised while playing with a Pomapoo to not hurt and treat your pet with respect. They are energetic, playful, and loyal dogs. A Pomapoo may develop separation anxiety if they are left alone for a longer time. They bark when they sense that their owner is leaving the house. They get along well with strangers, which makes them poor watchdogs. As long as they are in a loving environment, they feel happy and safe. Early socialization is essential to growing your pup into a well-behaved dog.
Care
The Pomapoo is an intelligent breed that is always eager to please its owner, making it quickly trained. They have moderate energy requirements and do not need a lot of exercises. The breed is relatively active, but it enjoys a long walk with its owner and playtime outside. These adorable dogs need regular grooming to keep them in top positions. They need daily brushing to keep the coat clean and healthy. Make sure to keep a check on overall hygiene like ears and eyes cleaning and teeth brushing routine.
Health
The average lifespan of a Pomapoo is 10-15 years. They need regular veterinary checkups to keep them healthy and detect signs of any health problem early. Patellar Luxation, Epilepsy, Cataracts, and Tracheal Collapse are commonly found health problems in a Pomapoo. Make sure to get the health clearance if you are planning to get this adorable breed home.
