Bichon Frise
Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise, also known as Bichon Tenerife, is an affectionate, furry, cute, and intelligent dog breed. They can easily be mistaken for a child’s toy. This small dog breed is exceptionally cheerful with a love of mischief and a lot of love to give. They can be your happiest and most adorable companions. They need plenty of time and space to play, and they don’t care for being left alone for days.
Origin
This purebred is originated on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. They were bought home from Malta islands by Italian soldiers in the late 1300s. They became popular pets for the Italian upper class, including King Francis I. Bichon Frises rose in popularity through World War I to the point of nearly being disappeared but survived through their popularity as a swindler, accompanying street musicians. Italian breeders made efforts in the 1930s to revive the breed, which finally took off in popularity after being brought to the United States of America in the late 1900s.
Size
This fluffy breed can reach up to 9 to 12 inches in height and weighs 4 to 5 pounds. This fluffy breed always comes in white color (although puppies may be cream-colored or light yellow). They have dark black eyes, drop furry ears, a furry little tail curled over the back, and round cute fluffy feet. Bichon Frises have long, elegant straight necks, beautiful muscular chests, short legs, and a scissors bite. They also have dark noses and lips, giving an adorable facial expression.
Coat
Bichon Frise’s have a thick white furry coat, which gives them the look of a soft toy. They have a soft, silky undercoat followed by a wavy, furry outer coat. Although there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, the low shedding coat of this breed might make it a good fit for those who tend to sniffle around dogs. Even though they are low shedding breeds, her double thick coat needs high maintenance and care for grooming. Brushing is required once or twice a week with a curly coat.
Temperament
Bichon Frises are one of the most popular breeds among children and families as they are fun-loving, adorable, always eager to make friends with strangers and other dogs and children. They are highly energetic, loyal, and love to play and snuggle up with her humans. This breed has a personality as soft and fluffy as her fur. They can get along with almost anyone, from humans, cats, and dogs. They also love getting attention from their owner or family.
Care
The Bichon Frises coat needs high maintenance and should be brushed and combed daily to avoid pain. They also need trimming after every two months. They should be groomed early to avoid the pain, as they’ll undergo the process frequently. The bichon frises ear and foot hairs should also be trimmed occasionally. Because of their temperament, they need a lot of time to exercise, and regular walks and plays are just as they love playing and running around.
Health
Bichons are generally healthy compared to other breeds, and however, they are prone to specific health problems like bladder problems, patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, juvenile cataracts, and other allergies. The average life span of bichon fries is 12 to 13 years. Make sure to take your pet for a regular checkup, and do ask for a health clearance certificate before you get this adorable cute tiny pup home.
