Origin
Cav-a-Jack breed of dogs is new to the world. Though, we can talk about its background and ancestral history. The hybrid breed got its name from Jack Russell, who’s known to produce dogs to chase foxes from their hideaway. Cav-a-Jack is also famous by the name Parson Russell Terrier in America.
The American Kennel Club recognized Cav-a-Jack as the official breed. Back in history, Cav-a-Jack was famous among the British nobility, and King Charles II kept it as a companion dog. And due to his love, it was also known as King Charles Spaniel.
Size
Cav-a-Jack is a perfect breed for a family looking for a small breed to adopt. An adult Cav-a-Jack can reach a height of 10-17 inches and weighs around 12-18 pounds. Generally, male Cav-a-Jack is heavier than female. These dogs are called “designer dogs” for their attractive look.
Coat
The hybrid breed has a variable external characteristic. Like, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent has a fluffy, smooth, and medium-sized coat, while the Jack Russell parent has a coarse and ruff type coat. As a result, Cav-a-Jack has a bicolor or tricolor coat with medium-length hairs.
Temperament
These dogs are super active and love to play a lot. They need a lot of activity and cannot be taken up in an apartment for long hours. Cav-a-Jack is preferred because it’s easy to socialize with nature and quickly learn how to live with new people. It can be a cuddle buddy and sit in your arms. These breeds are easier to train.
Care
These pups can be happily kept in an apartment. They are prone to separation anxiety disorders. So, it is required to keep special care and let them feel your love. You must offer them an open environment to play and train them mentally. You are needed to have a walk of around an hour daily with it. Their coats should be brushed a few times a week so that their fur doesn’t spread in the room. A quality diet is preferred to keep them happy, along with dog heating or cooling pads if there’s an abrupt change in temperature in your area.
Health
Though Cav-a-Jack is a breed of high energy and exercise requirements, they live happily in areas with cold climates. Bathing is necessary to remove dirt and dead hairs from their bodies. These are small-sized dogs, so that they can incur problems related to canines. It can also suffer from hypoglycemia, joint issues, early tooth loss, and diabetes. A regular visit to a vet with your puppy is always recommended.
