Origin
The Boxerdoodle is a mixed breed that results from the crossbreeding of a Poodle and a Boxer. As it is a mixed breed, we do not have much information about the breed’s origin. All we know is that one of the newest mixed breeds originated in the last decade. The breeders wanted to combine the intelligent and obedient personality of a Poodle with the playful nature. As it is a mixed breed, it is recognized by ACHC (American Canine Hybrid Club).
Size
The boxerdoodle can be small, medium, or even large. As it is a mixed breed, the average size may vary depending upon the dominant trait of the parent breed. It has a shoulder height of 10-25 inches and weighs around 12 to 70 pounds. The male boxerdoodle may be slightly larger than the female.
Coat
The Boxerdoodle coat mixes the coat and colours of its parent breed. A boxerdoodle can be seen in almost any colour you could imagine, although shades of brown are more common. They have a curly and wavy coat that can be short to long.
Temperament
Boxerdoodles are sociable and friendly dogs. They instantly become a part of the family and love to be around people all the time. They are playful and form great bod with kids. If you are a person who likes to be active and outdoors, a boxerdoodle will always be ready to accompany you for a walk, hike, and treks. Boxerdoodles are noble and profound dogs, but they have a playful and fun side that makes them wonderful pets to be around. They tend to become aggressive or destructive if they feel threatened or left alone for a longer time. The breed loves swimming and may entertain you with their funny antics if they get a chance to swim. Early socialization and exposure to the outside world are necessary for your pup to turn into a well-behaved dog.
Care
The Boxerdoodle has energy requirements, so they need a lot of exercise and play sessions to stay physically fit and mentally stimulated. Large spaces and open areas are ideal for them, though they’ll also be happy in a small backyard if they get sufficient exercise and mental stimulation. The breed is easy to groom and requires brushing twice a week to keep their coat clean and healthy. Check for their eyes and ears to avoid any infection. Bathe them when necessary, trim their nails regularly, and brush their teeth daily to prevent bad breath and dental problems.
Health
The Boxerdoodle has a lifespan of 10-12 years. It is prone to some health conditions that its parent breeds also face. Bloat, Entropion, and Cardiomyopathy are diseases commonly seen in a Boxerdoodle. Take your pet for regular vet check-ups to detect the early signs and symptoms of illnesses, if any. Do get the health clearance when you plan to get this adorable pup home.
